Marie started her journey with dogs back in 2010, when she welcomed Butter, a sable coloured Shetland Sheepdog into her life. Ash, a bi-blue merle Shetland Sheepdog joined them a year after.
With her two Shelties, Marie learnt the importance of dog training as a responsible dog owner. A well trained dog is a joy to be with, and she went on to enjoy a meaningful relationship with her furkids.
Inspired by her love for dogs, she quickly discovered she had a talent in training dogs. Butter and Ash are loved by many for being well behaved dogs, and are exemplary testaments to her passion and commitment in dog training.
In 2011, Marie started volunteering at various animal shelters in Singapore. From cleaning the kennels to walking the dogs, bathing the dogs to rehabilitating them for behavioural issues. She also actively rescue, rehome and foster dogs that needed a helping paw.
She believes in creating awareness for responsible dog ownership and to encourage adoption. She was featured in many publications and on TV for her fundraising and dog training work.
As part of her quest to reduce dog abandonment cases while consecutively rehabilitating dogs with behavioural issues to increase their chances of adoption, she went on an academic pursuit with Cambridge Institute of Dog Behaviour & Training.
With her acquired scientific knowledge about dog behaviour, coupled with hundreds of hours of practical training with the shelter dogs, she embarked on her journey as The Dog Alchemist with her private dog training practice. She also contributed her knowledge to the local media and community as part of public education.
The Dog Alchemist's logo incorporates Marie's love for her two Shetland Sheepdogs, Butter & Ash. This new website is a tribute to Ash, who crossed over the rainbow bridge on 14th May 2023.
The crest holds firm her belief that dog training is an art of communication and a science of understanding canine behaviour and psychology. Using positive motivation of love and rewards, she guides dog owners on how to modify a dog's undesired behaviour into a desired behaviour.
